Cockroaches are part of the "blattodea order of insects" and thrive extremely well in this area of the Great Desert Basin. They usually prefer large groups,  hide in dark moist spaces, and travel about to feed at night. Cockroaches usually live up to six months, are prolific breeders, and lay their eggs near food sources. Though most species have wings, they usually do not fly. St George area cockroaches include the American (periplaneta americana), German (blattella germanica), Oriental (blatta orientalis), and Brown Banded (supella longipalpa). They can easily access interior spaces of a residence through a poorly sealed door or window. Some people develop allergies from cockroach parts, feces, and oils.
